Golden State’s center, Kristaps Porzingis, is encountering several familiar opponents lately, continuing as the Warriors visit the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night.

Porzingis previously spent two seasons with the Celtics before being traded to Atlanta following the 2025 season. The Hawks then sent him to Golden State in February, part of a trade involving guard Buddy Hield and forward Jonathan Kuminga. Throughout his NBA career, Porzingis has also played for the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Washington Wizards.

“Quite a talent,” as described by Golden State coach Steve Kerr. “We’re on the Kristaps Porzingis reunion tour. It’s quite remarkable, facing all of his former teams – the Knicks, Washington, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas. Players usually elevate their game against their old team, and I think that holds true for Kristaps.”

Porzingis delivered a 30-point performance in the recent game against Washington, marking his highest point contribution since joining the Warriors. His efficient shooting and excellent free-throw accuracy were instrumental in Golden State snapping a five-game losing streak with a 125-117 victory.

“He’s finding his rhythm,” Kerr remarked. “It’s evident. He scores so effortlessly. He sealed the game with his free throws. It wasn’t a pretty game, but securing the win was crucial, and we did enough to achieve that.”

Porzingis faced Boston in his Golden State debut back in February, but the upcoming game will be his first return to Boston since leaving the Celtics. His presence was significant in Boston’s 2024 NBA championship win.

The Celtics are coming off a 120-112 win over Phoenix but have a 2-2 record in their last four games. Jaylen Brown’s 41-point performance in the previous victory stood out, with Jayson Tatum contributing 21 points. Brown’s impactful plays in the final quarter were pivotal, leading Boston to victory with a strong closeout.

Tatum highlighted the synergy between himself and Brown during crucial moments: “We have consistently fed off each other, especially in the last six years. We’ve complemented each other well on both ends, winning numerous games, playoff series, and a championship. It’s a chemistry we’ve built over time.”

Kerr earned his 600th coaching victory in the recent game against Washington, becoming the 28th NBA coach to achieve this milestone. He reached this feat in 943 regular-season games, making him one of only three coaches – along with Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, and Gregg Popovich – to require fewer games to reach 600 wins.

Reflecting on this achievement, Kerr acknowledged the importance of talent in coaching success, stressing the indispensable role of exceptional players in achieving victories in the competitive NBA.
